Summary

Wise old man, won't you help me, please? My house is a squash and squeeze。 A little old lady lives all by herself in her house but she's not happy - it's just too small, even for one。 Whatever can she do? The wise old man knows: bring in a flappy, scratchy, greedy, noisy crowd of farmyard animals。 When she pushes them all out again, she'll be amazed at how big her house feels! The brilliantly funny A Squash and a Squeeze was the first ever picture book written and illustrated by the unparalleled picture-book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo。 This edition features the classic story with a stunning, redesigned cover and beautiful finish, making it a must-have addition to the bookshelves of all Donaldson and Scheffler fans - big and small! Also available with redesigned covers are The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child, Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale, The Smartest Giant in Town, Monkey Puzzle and Charlie Cook's Favourite Book。

This was Donaldson first ever publication。 And it isn't her original story。 It is based directly on a Yiddish Jewish folktale。 It's wrong that nowhere does she recognise its origins, but rather the story is presented as her own original creation。 She began her career and success with this story, it should have been appropriately credited。 This was Donaldson first ever publication。 And it isn't her original story。 It is based directly on a Yiddish Jewish folktale。 It's wrong that nowhere does she recognise its origins, but rather the story is presented as her own original creation。 She began her career and success with this story, it should have been appropriately credited。 。。。more

A picture from a classical author which illustrates as to how personal space within a house is essential。 However, the main character in the book is struggling to figure which is the best thing to do when figuring how to maximise her space in her house。 There are some surprises along the way which she follows from someone’s recommendation。 A good book for Reception-Year 2 pupils。

Great book。 Grandchildren love it

This book gave an astonishing life learning lesson。 The old lady complains to wise old man that her house is a "squash and a squeeze"。 He helps her by giving her advice。 He tells her to bring in your hen, then the goat, then the pig, then the cow。 then he tells her to take them out。 One by one they go and her house is starting to feel a bit more spacious。 It took her a challenge to understand to be grateful for everything you have in life。 It can always ben taken as fast as lightening。 The illus This book gave an astonishing life learning lesson。 The old lady complains to wise old man that her house is a "squash and a squeeze"。 He helps her by giving her advice。 He tells her to bring in your hen, then the goat, then the pig, then the cow。 then he tells her to take them out。 One by one they go and her house is starting to feel a bit more spacious。 It took her a challenge to understand to be grateful for everything you have in life。 It can always ben taken as fast as lightening。 The illustrations were also funny and cute。 I adored the rhymes。 。。。more

This is a retelling of a classic folktale。 The first reading with my kids was "It Could Always be Worse" by Margot Zemach。 That one was okay。 This one was much more enjoyable。 I love the rhyme and the phrase "My house is a squash and a squeeze。" Plus the familiarity of illustrations by Axel Scheffler is always comforting。 I'll certainly check it out again。 This is a retelling of a classic folktale。 The first reading with my kids was "It Could Always be Worse" by Margot Zemach。 That one was okay。 This one was much more enjoyable。 I love the rhyme and the phrase "My house is a squash and a squeeze。" Plus the familiarity of illustrations by Axel Scheffler is always comforting。 I'll certainly check it out again。 。。。more

This taught you that you just have to make do with what you have and that your situation could have been a lot worse so be thankful。

Always fun doing a wise old man and old lady voice。 A story that definitely grows on you and gets better as the little one gets old enough to notice the details。

Not my most favourite of Julia Donaldson books but I can appreciate the story and understand that it represents appreciating what you have。

Julia Donaldson is a master。 Love her rhythm and messages too。

Great rhythm and would be fun for a read aloud。

- You never really know how good you have something until it is taken away from you。 - Promotes discussion around capacity and volume。 - Estimation: How many pigs do you think could fit inside the classroom?

Lovely illustration and rhyming, With a great message at the end。 Julia Donaldson always manages to fit some good morals into a brilliant story。

We're thoroughly enjoying all the Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler picture books, that we're attempting to collect them all。This was another fun one featuring an old lady who felt her home was too small。Various suggestions by a wise old man see an array of farm yard animals being invited into the house, it's pretty obvious that the lady has more room than the though。These books are such a winning combination of wonderful rhyming words alongside some great illustrations。 We're thoroughly enjoying all the Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler picture books, that we're attempting to collect them all。This was another fun one featuring an old lady who felt her home was too small。Various suggestions by a wise old man see an array of farm yard animals being invited into the house, it's pretty obvious that the lady has more room than the though。These books are such a winning combination of wonderful rhyming words alongside some great illustrations。 。。。more

Ei ehkä ihan yhtä herkullista riimittelyä kuin Squash and a Squeeze, mutta kyllä tämä suomeksikin piti lukea heti kaksi kertaa putkeen。

Every Julia Donaldson book is a favourite in this household, and those in which she has partnered with Axel Scheffler are the best。 This story shows how changing your perspective can enhance your experience and ensure you aren't taking your abundance for granted。 Every Julia Donaldson book is a favourite in this household, and those in which she has partnered with Axel Scheffler are the best。 This story shows how changing your perspective can enhance your experience and ensure you aren't taking your abundance for granted。 。。。more

I think this book has a lesson for all of us。 Things can always be worse , and we often don't appreciate what we have untill we lose it。 A lovely fun book with a nice repetition to it that my children like to join in with。 I think this book has a lesson for all of us。 Things can always be worse , and we often don't appreciate what we have untill we lose it。 A lovely fun book with a nice repetition to it that my children like to join in with。 。。。more

I like this book because it teaches children to be grateful and appreciative。 For example, in the story, the little old Lady believes her house is small。 It isn't until all the animals join her in the house that she realizes that it wasn't small after all。 Also, the book is entertaining for children because the animals all come into her house and it's a Squash and a Squeeze。This book would be great for PSHCE lessons about being grateful。 However, it could also be used in English lessons as an in I like this book because it teaches children to be grateful and appreciative。 For example, in the story, the little old Lady believes her house is small。 It isn't until all the animals join her in the house that she realizes that it wasn't small after all。 Also, the book is entertaining for children because the animals all come into her house and it's a Squash and a Squeeze。This book would be great for PSHCE lessons about being grateful。 However, it could also be used in English lessons as an introduction to rhyming because most of the sentences rhyme。 The children could continue the story and add another animal into the house (and continue the rhyme)。 For example, a cat。 。。。more
